Update from Isaac in Kapchorwa

Sponsors,
Enjoy this recent update from Isaac, our main administrator for Hope Africa in Kapchorwa.
Thanks for the continued support!

Schools officially closed on the 12th of this Month for second term hoilday. They shall be reporting back on the 5th of September 2011 for the final term on the year. This term has been the most difficult to manage the school because of inflation. We trust, as we move to the harvest period which begins sometimes in October, we prices could drop as a result of excess supply of maize to the market. Most government schools closed two weeks before the official closing date but we thank God because our pupils stayed until the end of the term.

As usual, our P7 pupils are going on a school tour from the 29th to the 31st of this month. They shall depart from Kapchorwa from the 29th of August at 2.00am and they will be at Entebbe airport by 9.00am of the same day. They will have their breakfast at the airport and later travel to the shores of lake victoria and winding up at the Entebbe zoo. From the Zoo, they will sleep in Kampala - possibly Gaba, eat their supper there and call it a night. 30th August morning, they get breakfast there and take off to Uganda Parliament at 9.00am where they have been allowed to the public gallary to witness a live session of debates taking place. From parliament, they will tour Makerere University and to Port Bell landing sites on the shores of lake victoria. They will return to Gaba for a night through some industries in Kampala and retire into bed. 31st August, they take off to Jinja - Owen falls dam, the source of the Nile and some industries mostly sugar processing in Jina. We anticipate they will be done by 2.00pm and they head back to Kapchorwa.

Tis the Season.....

As the fall colors start to change and the evening air turns crisp, my thoughts turn towards thinking about the holidays and the upcoming Christmas celebration for the children in Kapchorwa.

We are now collecting donations for this event that has become so special for the children, so please consider making a contribution of any amount by check or online. We will be taking donations until November 1st.
Happy Autumn!

John is home! Latest update on Kapchorwa has arrived...

It was great to meet with John Hornbeck this week and hear his encouraging update of how things are going in Kapchorwa. He said Testimony School is looking better than ever, as they have planted gardens around the school grounds and are actually harvesting fresh vegetables to add to the daily meal for the children and staff. They are in the process of re-painting the building while the children are out on holidays for the next few weeks. They have also put some stone work around the grounds of the school to avoid all the red dirt becoming mud during the rainy seasons and being tracked into the school and classrooms. You can imagine having over 400 pairs of little feet and hands covered in red dirt all over the floors and walls of the school!

Because of all the recent rain, things look lush and the coffee plants are hanging heavy with beautiful coffee cherries. He was able to spend part of a Saturday with the children at their "Saturday School Program" where he listened to lots of great singing and teaching and also attended a soccer match of our children from Testimony VS children from another local school. He said the children looked great, were healthy and happy!
